Blowing hot air behind it is probably not a good idea. Use a sun shield when parked, all plastics don't last long under the sun.
You can mount your phone either vertically or horizontally. I have not tried the foam-tape attachment that sticks to the dash because the window mount was the least intrusive setup but that looks pretty solid as well. I bought it for my iPhone and it works perfectly. Most of the other "iPhone" mounts forced you to remove your case to use them. I had to add a piece of foam on the side pads to secure the phone. It is very snug on my Incredible and the Droid X.
I tried every possible orientation of the phone, and none would allow access to all phone ports and power button. That said, the modification was not a big deal, and the holder works fine. I am not really sure how long the tightening mechanism for the swivel joint will last but it works really well now. The design of this mount also protrudes far enough from the vent that it does not block the air flow as much as other mounts that I have seen, which is a bonus also.
I was trying to find a good car mount for my Droid X that wasn't too expensive, and I somehow stumbled across this product. I paid in total, with shipping: $21.91 The mount looks a bit cheap as far as the plastic is concerned, but it's durable enough, getting tossed into the back of my car whenever I'm done with it, and flying around on the floor after I've thrown it into the back. This product is much better than a similar item I recently tried that cost just a few dollars less. This unit fits very well in the vents of the circular mini cooper, No adjustment needed at all Very happy with unit strong spring that holds unit in as well. I have not had it fall off like some other mounts. I drive a F150 truck so the ride is a bit bumpy but this mount has not failed.
The phone is secure over rough roads and with the case on; I am not worried if it falls in the car. Overall a great value compared to many other universal smartphone car docks.
The vent mount fits better in the 1989 but does just fine in the 2006 model. It fits my Evo snugly with the adjustable spring loaded arms when positioned horizontally or vertically. The phone doesn't move too much if any while going down the road. And it's not a bad price.
One thing, the vent mount doesn't hold very tight on my car, so that I don't feel comfortable using it. Maybe it's my particular type of vent (it's an old, old car), or maybe I'm not installing it right. He says that's great but he wishes the suction cup was as good as this one. This mount is top quality very versatile. It holds to the windshield very strong. And even comes with dashboard and vent brackets.
