Choosing Between Windows and Mac OS

By Daniel Greer

Everyone has heard about the endless Windows vs. Mac OS debate that computer users are having. This debate isn't exactly that old and both systems are genuinely worth checking out. Yet there are differences that mean that one or the other is probably better for your purposes. If you're having a difficult time choosing between them, consider the points we will be raising in this article.

If security is a major concern for you, Windows is not your best choice. Users of Windows are well-know to have most of the computer viruses directed at them. This is largely because more people use Windows, but whatever the reason, you are much less vulnerable on a Mac. Spyware and malware have the same type of results. You will need to update your anti-virus software, which will need to be on your computer, if it is a Windows OS, and it might not cost you money, but it will cost you time. No matter what kind of computer you have, threats are real and precautions should be take, but there are less concerns with a Mac. Not all security issues come from outside sources, that are not controlled by you, such as giving personal information to a hacker or scam artist. Just using common sense will protect your computer from a lot of issues.

If you are a follower of tech news, you've undoubtedly heard quite a bit about Windows 8, the next important update being offered by the Windows operating system. For some people this is going to be a major blip in the entire Windows Vs. Mac debate because, apparently, when this new release comes out it is going to have some amazing new features. More importantly, Windows 8 is going to give you the option of using your computer as a tablet and will have a very functional touch screen. Of course, you'll still be able to employ a traditional mouse and keyboard. Obviously, however, as of this article's writing date, Windows 8 is still just something that we can only look forward to. The earliest release date we can find is sometime in 2012. By then it is definitely likely that Mac is going to come up with something that will rival those features. When systems are comparable, it is only the fanatical ones that will elevate the one they like and put down the one they don't. When you couldn't find hardware or software that worked with both system, then there was a big difference in the computers Today, however, you can hook up most devices to either a Mac or PC, and find versions of software that work with both. The new Macs, which you might have, are able to run Windows, and that is a big change. Either a Mac or Windows is superior in certain areas of specialization, but everything needed can be found with either one or the majority of users.

There is no real absolute answer as to whether Mac or Windows is a better OS. Both have fans, but each has its own set of advantages over the other. It's important to give careful consideration to what you need your OS to do, how much you can afford to spend, etc and then choose the OS that best matches those things.
