CBS- Fulfilling Your Inmate Phone Card Service Needs

By Elmer Richardson

Correctional billing services or CBS is a customer care division of the two subsidiaries of Securus Technologies which are namely Evercom Systems, Inc. and T-Netix, Inc. It forms an integral part of the inmate telephone system. When compared to a traditional telephone service, an inmate telephone system will have a few extra features like live call monitoring and recording. Alerts can also be sent if the inmate calls a flagged number. It can also be shut down remotely for security purposes.

The most important purpose or function of an inmate telephone system is to help the various inmates get in touch with their respective families. It helps to know that there is somebody out there who cares and looks forward to seeing you. The worse thing will be to completely miss out on your family while you serve your sentence. Different types of phone card services are provided by the correctional billing services to give better options for calling.

There are essentially three types of correctional billing services and they are advance connect, direct bill account and traditional collect account. In the advance connect plan, you can make calls as long as you have the necessary funds in your account. Therefore you have total control over all your calls. You will be required to keep a minimum funding account of $25. You can access your account anytime to know where you stand by simply calling the appropriate agent or by going online to its website.

A direct bill account is the other type of correctional billing services and is perfect for those serving more than 2 years in prison. It is also ideal for attorneys, bail bondsmen, social workers, business or government agencies etc. You can call cell phones but such an action will be subject to facility restrictions if there are any. You will also get an itemized monthly statement which lists your complete calling information for that particular month.

Apart from the advance connect and the direct bill account, you can also choose the traditional collect account. This account will be automatically created once you accept any collect calls and your phone number will be used as your account number. In this plan, you get a 90 day spending limit and every time you accept collect calls, the charges for the call will be taken from your available spending limit. The total bill will then be added to your phone bill. By going through each of the plans provided by correctional billing services, you will be able to find the right one for you.
