Make Your Laptop Battery Last Longer

By Jack Wogan

It is not a secret anymore, laptops are some of the most popular devices used nowadays. A large number of people use them because they can be taken everywhere and they fulfill the same purposes as a full desktop.

Nonetheless, laptop use has its own downsides. One of them is the fact that they can run out of battery in some of the most inappropriate moments. This article aims to provide a few useful guidelines on how to preserve your laptop battery fully functional for a long time.

Avoid overheating - As you may have already noticed, laptops generate heat and due to extensive use they might even overheat. Overheating will decrease your laptop's performing capacity and it will also put a strain on your battery performance. That is why it is important to let your laptop cool when it has reached high temperatures. Most importantly, make sure the battery will not be exposed directly to the sunlight because it will also suffer damage.

Do not drain your batter completely - Unless your laptop runs on a nickel-metal hybrid battery (which needs to be completely drained and recharged), make sure that you do not use it until is flat. Nowadays, most of the manufacturers fabricate laptops that include modern lithium ion batteries and this type of batteries can be left to discharge partially and then recharged. This action will not harm their running system.

Battery life preservation cannot be achieved in the absence of an original AC adapter (the so-called power cord). Many people prefer to acquire a less expensive battery charger but they do not realize that this might affect the way their laptop's battery performs. So, make sure you contact your manufacturer and order an original laptop adapter.

Ensure proper storage - If you plan not to use your laptop for more than a week, then take the battery out of it and store it in a cool and dry place. Leaving your battery in the laptop for a long time is not recommended. Before you remove it, make sure it is discharged to around 40 percent of the full capacity. The battery's charge situation can be seen by clicking the battery status icon on your laptop's desktop.

Keep your battery clean - It is important to realize that laptop batteries accumulate dirt and dust particles over time. Therefore, you need to clean its contacts that can get corroded over time. You can do this with a cotton swab dampened in alcohol. Before beginning the cleansing procedure, remove the battery out of the laptop. After you have finished the cleaning let the battery dry very well. The cleansing procedure should be repeated every two or three months.

No matter how well you try to preserve the life of your battery it might cause you problems anyway. If this happens, consult some IT specialist, such as it support london. They will let you know what the best approach is.
