When I decided to become a dentist many years ago, it never crossed my mind that all these years later, I would have to spend a large amount of time stressing about dental software. I have owned my own dental practice for around twenty years now, and when I first opened my practice, we used one of those antique x-ray machines that were a huge pain to use and required a lot of film and even more hassle.
I got so used to it, that I initially dismissed the first digital x-ray machines that I saw, along with the dental software that younger dentists are all over. I eventually changed my mind when I was visiting a colleague who insisted on showing me his new software, hoping that he could convince me to adopt the same program. He was right as I was blown away by how easy this program was to use as soon as he showed it to me. I had always thought that someone like me who did not like technology, would not be able to understand a system like that, but I was delighted to see that I could easily understand it.
Another feature that caught my attention was that the software was web-based, which meant that I could log in and look up patient data from home or anywhere else instead of having to physically be in the office. I saw a lot of potential in using this feature on my smartphone since I could review patient needs when I was at home, out at lunch, or at a conference.
On top of all that, the dental imaging capabilities of this software were incredible! I could see the details of teeth so perfectly and I knew that I would be better able to plan treatment if I were using such sophisticated technology. I told my friend that I would like to learn more about the specific software he was using and he directed me to the company website.
I spent a large amount of time looking online, and the more I read, the more I was confident that this was what my practice really needed. I had new equipment put in and the software installed, and now I have no concerns that I am not keeping up with the rest of the dentists. I am finally able to value the benefits of technology, and know that I am providing my patients with the greatest care for their teeth.
