Hard Drive Erasure Before Computers Recycling

By Shari Swanson

Your data is usually the last thing you think about before taking your computers recycling in Austin. Usually people simply take their computer to the nearest center to be recycled. Unfortunately they forget to remove their disk drive which can contain valuable information.

Most people take an old machine and immediately rush it to the center to be recycled. Yet they forget about all of their valuable data that may be on that disk. You have two very good ways of destroying this data. One is by the destruction of that drive or the erasure of the data on the drive.

Newer machines will make it easy to open up the side of a case. Older ones will usually secure the case with screws. In either instance open it up and locate the disk drive. Unplug the wires in the back and unscrew it from its rack.

Once your drive is free you can go about destroying it. There are a number of different ways to do this. The internet is filled with videos and articles that will go over the correct steps. Instead of destroying however you can keep the drive and either enclose it for use as an external drive or install it in your new computer.

For those that want no part of drive removal and destruction they can choose to erase it. There are a number of very good programs both free and paid that will safely erase data from a drive. Remember the more times the software passes over the drive the longer the erase will take but the less data can be recovered.

Dealing with computers recycling in Austin you have to get your data removed. Many simply take their computer to the center and leave it there. Instead either destroy or erase the data on the drive.
