How to Choose the Right Small Office Telephone Solution

By Saul Saresi

Let's start by dispelling a common myth. Just because you have a smaller office than your competition does not mean you cannot compete on the same stage with, and take some of their market share from them.

This is a particularly important fact to remember when it comes to choosing the right telephone system for your business. The internet has changed the way we communicate across the board, and nowhere more so than with telecommunications.

Internet telephone systems have drastically changed the way that businesses both small and large communicate. But even still, there are a large number of businesses who are not aware of the advantages offered by internet telephone systems.

The first thing to understand is that there is more than one kind of internet telephone system. The first kind is called a PBX system, although this system is very rarely the correct choice for small businesses when compared to an IP phone system.

Choosing an IP system means that you will be a part of a much superior network that is able to video and voice data as well as a range of other important business tools and applications. As well as this, with an IP network you only have to manage a single network, meaning much more efficiency and much less expense.

IP networks are able to transmit high volumes of audio and video data at a fraction of the cost of a regular telephone network, and with much improved quality. Such systems also require only basic staff training, with no training required at all in many cases.

Network based IP systems are by far the easiest system to use and require very little - if any - staff training, owing to their similar functionality to a traditional phone system. As well as this, IP systems also allow you to take advantage of other services such as system management tools and security, to make your network as robust as possible.

So now you have all of the information that the big boys have. The only question that remains is how are you going to use this information? The clever entrepreneur looking to build for the future will realise that any system which affords him massively reduced call costs and increased quality along with the ability to grow at a rate to suit the company's growth, is surely a system worth serious consideration. And so surely the only question that remains is, how clever an entrepreneur are you?
