RIM Lost 1.8 Million U.S. Users In The Third Quarter

The latest data show that in the third quarter RIM lost 1.8 million subscribers in the United States, while Apple added 3.19 million new users at the same period.

These 1.8 million users are equivalent of 10% of the total users of RIM in the June. In the smart phones sold in the third quarter in U.S., RIM's share fell from the 7.9% in the second quarter to 7.1%. The U.S. smart phone users that are over the age of 13 increased 12% from 78 million in the end of June to 87.4 million, which indicates that the U.S. smart phone sales in the third quarter were $ 9.4 million units.

The survey results also show that, in the third quarter, RIM's share in the U.S. smart phone market fell from 23.5% to 18.9%, losing 1.8 million subscribers. RIM lost 1 million users in the second quarter, which means that RIM is facing serious challenges on how to curb the loss of users in the local market.

Android phone (http://www.highpower-ledlamp.com/) is the main beneficiary of the U.S. smart phone market in the third quarter. Its market share increased from 40.2% to 44.8%. It also reflects the popular trend of this kind of phone in the global market. This means that in the third quarter Android smart phones have 7.8 million new users, most of which were RIM's users.

The data show that at present, the U.S. Android smart phone users have a total of 39 million people. Apple's U.S. market share also rose, adding 3.19 million new users. The total users are slightly less than 24 million. The report shows that only Android and Apple's user growth rate is higher than the average increase rate of 12.2%. Android grew 24.8% and Apple increased 15.4%.

The data also show that the market share of Microsoft's Windows rose 8.1% and reached 4.9 million subscribers. Nokia's Symbian users added 10 thousand people. RIM's users decreased 10%. Although Apple's iPhone users have increased in the United States, but the iPhone's sales growth in the world began to slow decline. In the September, Samsung's share in the U.S. mobile phone market was 25.3%, roughly similar with that in June.
